I studied Fine Art
in London, achieving a BA Honours Degree.
After completing my degree, I became a graphic designer and later gained a Diploma in Interior Design with De Montfort University.
But fine art has always been my passion, and I’ve created artworks ever since.
My inspiration is nature;
plants and flowers, with their bold and infinite shades and forms, and more
recently rivers, and my local Kent coastline.
But my artwork
takes me beyond the obvious, with often just a hint of realism.
I start with a
photo I’ve taken, or something from memory, then let my imagination take over, forming the
composition as I go. I don’t like to plan a painting too much as this can
inhibit my creativity. I also like the viewer to read the work and make their
own conclusions about what it is.
I work in acrylics,
coloured pencil and oil pastel, but whatever the medium, I use layers of colour to
create depth.
I love colour, and
like my work to glow and look 3-dimensional,
without actually using perspective.
I am
also a trained and experienced art teacher, and have taught painting, drawing,
art history and the history of colour, with some of my students exhibiting in
London’s Mall galleries.
